To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION The FICC (Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities) eTrading Technology Team is dedicated to delivering innovative, high-performance technology solutions that enable efficient, secure, and scalable electronic trading across global fixed income, currency, and commodity markets. The team partners closely with trading, sales, and risk management functions to develop and support electronic trading platforms, pricing engines, and market connectivity solutions. By leveraging advanced technologies and deep market expertise, the FICC eTrading Technology Team drives business growth, enhances client experience, and ensures the bank remains at the forefront of electronic trading innovation. JOB PURPOSE The E-FI Lead Java Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance electronic US Treasury/Rates trading systems. This role combines deep technical expertise in Java with a solid understanding of Fixed Income markets to deliver reliable, scalable, and low-latency solutions that support the bank’s trading and risk management objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, business analysts, and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance trading capabilities, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive business growth.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and mentorship to the development team, ensuring best practices in software design, coding standards, and architectural decisions.
  • Development Contribution: Hands-on development to contribute directly to the pipeline as well as iterating on POC and rapid development
  • Solution Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of robust, scalable, and low-latency eTrading solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with traders, business analysts, product owners, and other technology teams to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Code Quality & Review: Drive a culture of code excellence through regular code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration, ensuring maintainability and reliability.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Risk & Compliance: Ensure all solutions comply with internal risk management policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Incident Management & Support: Lead the resolution of high-impact production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Project Planning: Contribute to project planning, estimation, and resource allocation to ensure timely and successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Java (Core & Advanced): Strong proficiency in Java, including multi-threading, collections, and concurrency.
  • FI Trading Systems: Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting electronic fixed-income (E-FI) trading platforms.
  • Messaging Protocols: Familiarity with FIX protocol, MQ, JMS, or similar messaging solutions.
  • API Development: Experience with RESTful and/or SOAP web services.
  • Low Latency Programming: Understanding of techniques for minimizing latency in trading applications.
  • Spring Framework: Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and related technologies.
  • Database Technologies: Strong SQL skills; experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL solutions.
  • Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed computing concepts and technologies (e.g., microservices, caching, clustering).
  • Testing Frameworks: Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing tools.
  • CI/CD: Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity, Git)
  • Doman Knowledge: Fixed Income Markets: Solid understanding of Rates products, trading lifecycle, and market conventions.
  • Order Management: Knowledge of order routing, execution, and trade booking flows.
  • Risk Management: Familiarity with pre-trade and post-trade risk controls in electronic trading
  • Soft Skills: Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with traders, business analysts, and other developers.
  • Agility: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Teamwork: Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.

  • This role has an expected salary range of $175,000 - $225,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position.
  • The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
