About The Position

The Senior External Communications Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of the organization's external communications and public affairs strategies. This role is responsible for managing the company’s external messaging, media relations, and public affairs initiatives to enhance the organization’s reputation and support its strategic goals.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in external comms, public affairs, or related roles in corporate or public sector environment.
  • Exceptional communications skills, oral and written, with experience writing and copy-editing corporate brand content.
  • Sharp focus and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in developing media/PR campaigns, including securing press coverage from key media.
  • Skilled at storytelling, can thread a narrative together and connect the dots.
  • Experience in building consensus and collaborating with cross-functional groups to get things done.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in external comms and public affairs.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically under tight deadlines.
  • Strong writing and verbal comms skills, with ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive external communications strategies that support the company’s business objectives and enhance public perception.
  • Lead Government relations efforts, in partnership with agency team, closely aligning with the Government Affairs & Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Manage media relations by building and maintaining strong relationships with key journalists, media outlets, and influencers.
  • Draft, review, and approve external communications materials such as press releases, statements, speeches, briefing notes, and media pitches.
  • Prepare stakeholders for media interactions, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Media and PR specialist to coordinate media outreach and proactive storytelling initiatives with the external agency team.
  • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing analysis and recommendations to senior team members.
  • Support the Director, Corporate Communications in strategic planning, reporting, and budget management related to external communications and public affairs.
