About The Position

As part of RWEST’s Global Market Analysis department, the Strategic Market Analysis team specializes in long-term market analysis, modeling, and price forecasting. We cover key regions including Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Our core expertise includes power price modeling for strategic and illiquid tenors, sensitivity analysis, bespoke scenario modeling, and forecasting for fundamental price drivers such as macroeconomic trends, energy demand, commodity and carbon markets, investment costs, technological advancements, and emissions targets & regulations. RWE will benefit from decarbonization, the expansion of renewables, and ongoing technological innovation, backed by further investments in future-oriented technologies such as renewables, electrolysers, and hydrogen or CCS-ready gas generation. To support RWE’s investment plans and growth strategy in the United States, you will be responsible for long-term power market modeling and analytics for key US electricity and energy markets. You will join our Long-term Modeling North Americas team based in Austin, reporting to the Head of US Long-term Power Modeling.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent. An advanced degree with an electricity market focus is a plus
  • Very strong quantitative and analytical skills (transfer of algorithms into model conduct)
  • At least one year of work experience in (long-term) electricity market modelling and analysis, including experience with production cost-based modelling tools such as PLEXOS, AURORA, PROMOD, UPLAN. Knowledge and experience in commodities market is a plus.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge between analysis and decision makers in other departments with an interdisciplinary approach
  • Experience in interfacing with databases, programming and data visualization software (SQL, Python, PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to condense model results into presentations for different groups of stakeholders
  • Enthusiastic team player, high level of self-motivation and flexibility, ability to work in a competitive environment and to meet tight deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Conduct long-term electricity market modeling for major US growth markets, such as CAISO, ERCOT, and WECC, with the goal of developing expertise to lead analysis and modeling efforts for one or more markets.
  • Analyze market fundamentals, policy developments, and electricity market design, and effectively translate insights into model inputs.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the fundamental and regulatory landscape of your markets—including commodity and power prices—to ensure the ongoing accuracy and relevance of your models; develop back-tests and model scenarios to assess sensitivities.
  • Collaborate closely with your team members and other Strategic Market Analysis colleagues to leverage collective expertise, sharing learning opportunities and ensuring global long-term modeling concepts and assumptions are aligned with established RWE principles.
  • Support the consistent application of US forecasts and modeling outputs across the RWE Group, communicating key findings and implications to stakeholders in North America and at the Group level. This includes engaging with colleagues from Commercial Analysis, Strategy, Commercial Optimization, Regulatory Affairs, Controlling, Finance, and the internal management team (Head of US Long-Term Power Modeling and Head of Strategic Market Analysis).
