About The Position

Boulder Community Health is seeking an Urgent Care tech that supports nursing in the delivery of patient care within the Urgent Care (UC) setting. The tech provides direct patient care and admissions support. They are responsible for documentation, order entry, stocking/unit supplies and patient transportation within building or to and from car as required. The tech performs interventions under the direction of the NP (Nurse Practitioner) within the legal limits of their certification. The tech greets all patients and visitors as needed, initiates a brief history, and vital signs. In collaboration with the NP's, the tech will assist with prioritization of patient flow from the waiting room to the patient care area. The Urgent Care Tech will also function in the role of unit coordinator when directed by the NP to ensure efficient patient flow of the Urgent Care.

Requirements

  • Colorado EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) OR
  • Colorado LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) license OR
  • Third year Nursing student who has completed their IV training and satisfactorily completed a class in Medication Administration (Transcript Required) OR Medical Assistant certification.
  • IV Certification required.
  • BLS certification required by the end of conditional period.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patients into the EMR as necessary.
  • Interviews the patient or his/her representative in order to obtain vital signs and a brief history.
  • Communicates with NP to appropriately prioritize patient care and flow.
  • Assists with Short Form registration.
  • Checks and enters patient information for UC into the EMR.
  • Completes paperwork on patients (i.e., sports physicals, outpatients, Workers' Compensation).
  • Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the individual departments.
  • Directs patient care calls to the NP.
  • Able to access patient records from the EMR when requested.
  • Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and staff.
  • Offers support and comfort for families and visitors.
  • Assists all departments, volunteers, families, and other related areas with patient location information and inquiries.
  • Observes all patients who present for care immediately if assigned to triage area.
  • Obtains a brief history and vital signs.
  • Under direction of the NP assists to prioritize care and flow of patients in the waiting area.
  • Communicates immediately with the NP regarding emergent patients.
  • Assists to facilitate a prompt and safe transition to the patient care area for treatment as indicated.
  • Communicates with patients and families in the waiting and treatment areas about delays.
  • Initiates standing or verbal orders, prep, and/or dress wounds, remove sutures/staples, apply oxygen, obtain vital signs, obtain IV access, phlebotomy, assist with exams, splinting and crutch training.
