About The Position

Join the hospital trusted by Chicago's Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Urgent Aid Tech with Family Care Center Flossmoor. In this role as an Urgent Aid Tech you are under the direction of the physician, manager, charge nurse or nurse, and performs assigned supportive work in conjunction with the delivery of patient care according to policy. With the leadership of the Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM), Manager (PCM), and Director of Urgent Aid, the Technician demonstrates necessary training, skills and knowledge to provide for patients according to unit specific competencies. Technicians assist in the delivery patient care including, quick triage, vital signs, respiratory therapy modalities, insertion/removal of peripheral IV catheters, venipuncture and other specimen collection, laboratory testing, instrument QCs and calibrations. Insertion of urinary catheters, application/removal of non-invasive cardio respiratory monitors, EKG monitoring, basic wound care, assist with provider exams including pelvic exams, and extremity splinting/immobilization. Contributes to exceeding the expectation of patients, providers, and guests by providing high quality, cost effective care and treatment in a professional and compassionate manner. Participate in regulatory survey readiness.

Requirements

  • Graduation from EMT-B/EMT-P training and completed state exam successfully.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse with recent acute, critical care or ED/UA experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistants program with certification and recent acute, critical care or ED/UA experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program with certification and recent acute, critical care or ED/UA experience.
  • 3-5 years recent commensurate experience in pre-hospital, ED, urgent aid, or critical care providing direct patient care.
  • 6 months' recent full-time employment involving direct patient care in an acute or pre-hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • EKG experience.
  • Current ACLS & PALS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned supportive work in conjunction with the delivery of patient care according to policy.
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care including quick triage and vital signs.
  • Administer respiratory therapy modalities.
  • Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and instrument quality controls.
  • Insert urinary catheters and apply/remove non-invasive cardio respiratory monitors.
  • Monitor EKGs and provide basic wound care.
  • Assist with provider exams including pelvic exams and extremity splinting/immobilization.
  • Contribute to exceeding the expectations of patients, providers, and guests.
