About The Position

AECOM’s Urbanism + Planning practice is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Urban Planning Intern to join our team in Washington, DC. The intern will serve on multi-disciplinary planning efforts in the DC region’s most treasured places, from national parks to diverse urban neighborhoods. As part of a highly collaborative team of urban designers, environmental planners, engineers, and economists, the intern will develop planning documents and facilitate stakeholder engagement efforts to help municipal, federal, and private sector clients advance transformational projects in the region. Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience writing technical documents or planning reports for public audiences.
  • Adept at developing creative and innovative graphics, maps, and document layouts.
  • Efficient and organized with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical writing, mapping, and graphics for plans focused on the development of neighborhood revitalization plans, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) plans, master plans, and comprehensive plans.
  • Support site analyses, land use and zoning evaluations, urban design studies, and alternative assessments.
  • Support the development of presentations and stakeholder engagement activities with agencies and public audiences.
  • Organize and track administrative project tasks like meeting minutes, action items, and scheduling needs.
