Our work includes multimodal corridor studies, Active Transportation and Vision Zero plans, Safe Routes to School, trails and greenways, wayfinding, and Complete Streets initiatives, all grounded in equity. Working within interdisciplinary teams, you’ll apply strong urban design and technical skills to bring project visions to life—developing concept plans, streetscape ideas, 2D/3D visuals, mapping and graphics, and supporting design documentation. You’ll also contribute through data analysis, community engagement, field work, plan writing, and stakeholder coordination to create safer, more vibrant public spaces. Join Us. Make an Impact. Work Schedule for an Urban Planner This position works a hybrid schedule in Ann Arbor that requires occasional in person workdays with the Michigan team and in person attendance at client meetings and public engagement activities as needed. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree or 4+ years experience in planning, urban design, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite
  • Proficiency in mapping and cartography software (ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Hands-on academic or practical experience in planning
  • Strong visual communication skills, including diagramming, mapping, and design storytelling
  • Experience with multimodal transportation, public engagement, or communications
  • Able to manage tasks independently, collaborate on teams, and clearly communicate technical ideas in writing

Nice To Haves

  • graphic production in 2D/3D using SketchUp/V-Ray/Rhino or Lumion, or willingness to learn
  • hand or digital sketching
  • prior planning or consulting experience or internships, bicycle and pedestrian projects
  • public realm design, experience including development of design ideas, production of presentation materials and construction documents, urban design a plus
  • Passion for active transportation
