About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Park Horticulture & Recreation Maintenance, the Urban Park Maintenance Staff is responsible for the following: Beautification and upkeep of urban parks and golf courses within the Peoria Park District. Adding landscaping (shrubs, grasses, and perennials) and planting trees. Cleaning and maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Mowing with a push mower or riding mower. Trimming with power weed trimmers or manually. Emptying garbage barrels and picking up litter. Cleaning and maintaining public restrooms. Planting, weeding, and watering flower beds. Athletic field maintenance and preparation for games. Picnic shelter preparations and clean up after rentals. Set up and tear down for special events. General maintenance and care of assigned equipment. Reporting any vandalism, unusual condition, emergency situation, or incident to the Park Manager. Assisting with several signature Park District special events, as assigned. Participation in professional development sessions, team building activities, and various trainings, as assigned. Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program. Performing other related duties as assigned. This is a grant-funded position spanning 10 weeks with hours available up to 40 per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Aptitude for on-the-job training.
  • Requires a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work well with Park District personnel.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and special events.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
  • This position will circulate to various District locations, including, but not limited to; Grand View Drive Park, Kellogg Golf Course, Madison Golf Course, Glen Oak Park, Bradley Park, Donovan Park, Forest Park Nature Center, and Landscape Development Department.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat, and bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to operate machinery relative to job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
