About The Position

The Urban Arts Teaching Artist - DJ position at SEAMAAC focuses on empowering youth through urban arts, specifically DJing, as part of the Urban Arts Entrepreneurship program. The role involves leading structured learning activities, developing curriculum, and fostering a creative environment for students to explore their artistic talents while promoting entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

Requirements

• Experience as an actively working or performing artist in the DJ field.
• A deep commitment to urban arts, education, community, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.
• Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or human services, or a high school diploma with three years of experience working with children and youth.
• Experience with creating and implementing lesson plans and curriculum.

Nice To Haves

• Teaching experience (1 year preferred)
• Experience in DJing (1 year required)

Responsibilities

• Lead studio activities for youth participants in DJing from 2pm - 6pm during the school year and 10am - 2pm during the summer.
• Write curriculum and implement structured project-based learning instruction.
• Develop participants' creative endeavors for showcases.
• Conduct outreach, recruitment, and enrollment of eligible student participants for summer and school year programs.
• Create a safe and engaging environment for youth to learn and grow their artistic skills.
• Communicate consistently with youth participants and their families, schools, and organizations.
• Encourage and monitor individual students' progress in their skills and abilities.
• Attend professional development trainings and complete required certifications.
• Assist in daily maintenance and upkeep of program areas.
• Follow safety and emergency procedures to ensure the safety of program youth.
