About The Position

The Urban and Environmental Planning & Policy (UEPP) Department at Western Washington University seeks undergraduate faculty members to support programs in urban planning/design, sustainability, studio courses, and environmental/natural resource policy. Our programs emphasize engaged pedagogies and critical perspectives, encouraging collaborative work within the nexus of urban, natural, and environmental planning and policy.

Requirements

• Masters or doctorate in a related field from an accredited institution, or a BA/BS with a minimum of 5 years of experience under exceptional circumstances.
• Evidence of community designs, models, exhibitions, community service learning, and other applied works.
• Demonstrated abilities in planning and policy history, methods, applications, and theory.
• Continued learning of current and advanced knowledge and practices in planning and policy fields.
• Engagement in related discipline and/or professional activity.
• Ability to promote diversity and inclusion within the department.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in teaching, research, and/or service within the planning and public policy professions.
• Skill in experiential and critical pedagogies suitable for classroom and/or field settings.
• Experience managing field practicum logistics and planning with community partner organizations.
• Successful experience using an online learning management system, such as Canvas.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in urban planning/design, sustainability, and environmental/natural resource policy.
• Engage in community designs, models, exhibitions, and community service learning.
• Cultivate equitable and inclusive environments for students, faculty, and staff.
• Support the success of students or professionals traditionally underrepresented in the field.

Benefits

• Starting salary of $1,385 per credit, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Participation in a bargaining unit (United Faculty of Western Washington).
