About The Position

TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory initiative that empowers first-generation and low-income high school students to graduate from high school and transition successfully to post-secondary education. Ivy Tech’s Upward Bound program serves students from Ben Davis High School, providing holistic academic, personal, and professional development opportunities. The Summer Academy, a cornerstone of the program, is a six-week immersive experience offering high school-level coursework, enrichment activities, and exposure to college life. Classes run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, June 15 – July 24, 2026, with mandatory training the week prior (June 8–12, 2026). Grant Funded Position This position is funded through a grant that has been awarded to Ivy Tech Community College. Employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of that grant funding. While the current grant period is June 8th - July 24th, continued funding is not guaranteed. If grant funds are exhausted without confirmation of a forthcoming grant funding extension, this position will be eliminated and employment with the College terminated.

Requirements

  • Instructional Design & Delivery – Ability to plan and execute engaging, age-appropriate lessons that align with academic standards and promote student learning.
  • Subject Matter Expertise – Proficiency in one or more of the following content areas: English, Mathematics, Laboratory Science, or Spanish.
  • Assessment & Feedback – Skilled in administering diagnostic and summative assessments, analyzing results, and delivering actionable feedback to support academic growth.
  • Student Engagement – Demonstrated ability to build rapport with high school students, foster a positive learning environment, and implement innovative, hands-on learning strategies.
  • Cultural Competency – Experience working with youth from broad and underserved backgrounds.
  • Data Management – Capable of tracking attendance, entering grades, and maintaining records in alignment with FERPA and institutional protocols.
  • Team Collaboration – Willingness to attend weekly staff meetings, share student progress with program staff, and contribute to a supportive team culture.
  • Supervision – Ability to monitor students during academic and enrichment activities as needed throughout the program.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong content knowledge in Math, Science, English, or Spanish.
  • Experience in a broad range of instructional strategies and student-centered learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with high school students from underserved communities.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Availability for the full program duration (June 8 – July 24, Monday–Thursday).

Responsibilities

  • Design, facilitate, and assess summer coursework to support student success in the upcoming school year.
  • Administer pre- and post-assessments to measure academic growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, and feedback.
  • Submit weekly grade updates to the Director.
  • Participate in mandatory training (June 8–12) and staff meetings throughout the program.
  • Supervise students during class and assigned activities as needed.
  • Communicate student progress and concerns to the Upward Bound team.
