About the position

The Upward Bound Counselor at the University of Pennsylvania is responsible for coordinating the counseling program for high school participants in grades 9 through 12. This role involves conducting workshops, providing individual counseling, and collaborating with parents and school personnel to monitor student progress. The counselor will also assist students with college applications and scholarships, ensuring they are well-prepared for post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

• Monitor student academic progress by assessing student needs and developing plans to meet those needs
• Maintain access database of students and the activities in which they participate
• Liaison with target high school personnel to gather educational information
• Coordinate initial recruitment and selection process for new students
• Assist students with completion of college/university applications and FASFA
• Assist students with scholarship searches and completion
• Meet with fellow staff members to update them of student progress
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
• Master's Degree with a concentration in Counseling, Education, or Social Work preferred and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
