About The Position

The Upstream Process Development Scientist will focus on the planning, execution, and analysis of studies to support the client's viral vector platform, specifically in producing recombinant AAV vector preparations for preclinical studies, toxicology batches, reference material, and clinical products. This role involves routine cell expansion, cell screening, and large-scale bioreactor operations.

Requirements

  • BSc in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
  • Expertise in AAV gene therapy
  • Experience in operations within a biosafety cabinet and cell culture incubators
  • Experience with media preparations and monitoring cell culture
  • Handling various sized shake flasks and small-scale bioreactors
  • Experience using MS Office, Excel, and basic cell kinetic analysis
  • Large-scale bioreactor experience is a plus
  • AAV bioprocessing and development experience is a plus
  • Experience with cell line development is a plus
  • Experience in a GMP environment is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform routine suspension cell culture (sampling, cell counting, passaging)
  • Independently maintain and manage upstream equipment appropriately
  • Support upstream technology strategies in various platforms including shake flasks and bioreactors from development to GMP manufacturing
  • Contribute to continuous improvement strategies by designing experiments and presenting results to stakeholders
  • Execute preparation of buffers/reagents, bioreactor set-up, and sampling operations
  • Ensure adequate inventory of materials and supplies, collaborating with supply chain
  • Draft, edit, and review data capture forms and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain responsible laboratory protocols and data capture using GDP
  • Collaborate with pre-clinical, analytical development, quality control, and manufacturing on project timelines
