About The Position

The Upper Snake Sagebrush Technician works closely with other science staff on several priority research projects. The Upper Snake Sagebrush Technician will be responsible for conducting a variety of field tasks as well as managing data. They will work in a team and at times independently across several workstreams to collect and manage vegetation data. They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Are you looking for a career to help people and nature? As part of The Nature Conservancy’s Wyoming Business Unit and the ecosystem-wide Sagebrush Sea Program, the Upper Snake Sagebrush Technician will support a variety of projects, including ground-truthing leading-edge invasive annual grass (IAG) models, evaluating the effectiveness of IAG treatments, and supporting federal and county partners in their efforts to strategically monitor and manage IAGs. The Upper Snake Sagebrush Technician will be responsible for conducting a variety of field tasks as well as managing data. They will work in a team and at times independently across several workstreams to collect and manage vegetation and soils data. Field work will primarily occur in the sagebrush-adorned valleys foothills of the Jackson Hole valley with office work based in the town of Jackson. Ultimately, they will play an important role in achieving our goals of accelerating the pace of restoration and proactive management to maintain diverse and functional sagebrush ecosystems that support Wyoming’s wildlife and people. This is a full-time, temporary position running from May 25th until September 11th.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in natural resources; environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months’ experience.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Located within a 45-minute drive of Jackson, Wyoming.

Nice To Haves

  • Field experience in sagebrush ecosystems, preferably in grizzly country.
  • Experience identifying plants to species level in the sagebrush ecosystem.
  • Experience collecting and managing field data, preferably using ArcGIS platforms such as Survey123 and Field Maps.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Time management skills.

Responsibilities
