About The Position

Instructs students in one or more subjects by performing essential teaching duties, assuring that the mission of the schools is supported. Models a servant’s heart and promotes an attitude of respect, teamwork and professionalism by speaking well of other faculty and staff members; supporting our entire school system-lower school, middle school, upper school; praying for and with other faculty and staff; encouraging others in Godly living and excellence; lovingly holding others accountable; actively pursuing ways to encourage members of the schools. To perform the job successfully, teachers should demonstrate qualities such as spiritual modeling of a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ, integrating faith into lessons, and supporting parents' role in education. Instructionally, they should demonstrate mastery of subject matter, use valid teaching techniques, plan programs that meet individual student needs, use class time effectively, use homework for drill/review/new concepts, assess learning regularly, communicate expectations clearly, and manage classroom discipline. Non-instructionally, they should cooperate with administration, maintain records, inform parents of deficiencies, maintain a clean classroom, accept extra-curricular responsibilities, be teachable, attend meetings, arrive on time, report to supervision duties, dress professionally, contact parents promptly, and collaborate with colleagues. Personally, they should demonstrate enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, humility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, emotional stability, objectivity, optimism, friendliness, consideration, impartiality, respect for authority, rapport with students/parents/staff, and good public relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
  • One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Fifth year college or university program certificate or two to four years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid teaching credential (a combination of education and experience may be considered by the administration in lieu of a credential)
  • Profess a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • Maintain a positive Christian testimony
  • Be involved in a local church of like faith and practice, consistent with the RCS Statement of Faith
  • Agree with and adhere to the employee handbook
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to meet people comfortably and engage in substantive conversation
  • Must be able to work diligently and independently and make judgments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to handle financial matters with integrity and with concern for confidentiality
  • Ability to use technology
  • Knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Spreadsheet software; Internet and Word Processing software, including, but not limited to, Google and Microsoft Suites
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Experience and/or understanding of At-Risk students; learning interventions, low-achieving students, and motivational strategies

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students by engaging them in the learning process through a wide variety of instructional strategies, including lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials.
  • Understand different learning styles and incorporate multiple styles in teaching.
  • Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the school.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework, quizzes, tests, projects, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents of progress.
  • Use assessments to direct teaching.
  • Keep attendance records.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom and demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
  • Communicate with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training workshops, and independent educational study for growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to further individual and departmental goals and growth.
  • Seek out additional support as needed for academic, emotional, spiritual support for students.
  • Perform related duties such as lunch-time and after-school monitoring, small group leadership outside of the classroom, sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, counseling students in social adjustment and academic problems.
  • Model a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ in speech, actions, and attitudes.
  • Integrate faith, Christ, and God’s word into classroom lessons.
  • Show support for the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and assist them in that task.
  • Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter.
  • Use valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals and promote student learning.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his or her best work while preparing him or her for the next level.
  • Use the maximum amount of class time for instruction.
  • Use homework effectively for drill, review, learning new concepts or project work.
  • Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Communicate student expectations at the beginning of the year (via a syllabus) and throughout the year clearly, and use school administrative software to post homework and grades as well as other needed information.
  • Keep proper discipline in the classroom, on school premises, and at school activities.
  • Vary teaching strategies to reach all learning styles.
  • Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures and directives governing the operations of the school.
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-ordered classroom.
  • Accept a share of responsibility for extra-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, committee and faculty meetings.
  • Arrive at work on time (7:30 am) and stay until the work day is officially complete (3:30 pm).
  • Report to all scheduled supervision duties.
  • Dress in a professional way that is set apart from the students.
  • Contact parents within 24 hours of initial inquiry.
  • Collaborate with other teachers within the system.
  • Develop rapport with students, parents, and staff to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to its constituency and the general public.
  • Oversee instructional aide if applicable to ensure his or her job description is adhered to.
