About The Position
Harvard-Westlake School is seeking an exceptional educator for a full-time position in our Upper School History/Social Studies Department (grades 1012), teaching four sections that include a mix of Modern World History and U.S. History. We welcome applicants who bring strong content knowledge, relevant academic preparation, and/or demonstrated classroom experience in both U.S. history and modern world history. The History/Social Studies Department places a high value on collegiality, collaboration, and team teaching. This model includes: Active coordination with colleagues who teach common courses Collaborative development and implementation of shared curriculum Commitment to department and team norms, including: Use of common curriculum and textbooks Shared skills benchmarks and assessment practices Consistent rubrics and grading standards Maintaining aligned pacing across sections
Requirements
- Bachelors degree or higher in history or a related field
- Experience teaching Modern World History and U.S. History
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset
- Creativity, flexibility, and strong pedagogical skills
- Ability to communicate concepts clearly, organize purposeful class time, and foster an engaging learning environment
- Enthusiasm for working with students inside and outside the classroom
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth
- Collegiality, professionalism, and active engagement in departmental activities
- Active involvement in the life of the school community beyond the classroom
