About The Position

The Upper School French Teacher at Oregon Episcopal School is responsible for teaching inquiry-based French classes to students in grades nine through twelve. This part-time position requires collaboration with colleagues to design and implement a curriculum that emphasizes analytical thinking, research, problem-solving, and creativity. The teacher is expected to engage in ongoing professional development and foster a vibrant, diverse learning community, while also modeling the importance of community involvement and collaboration.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent in French or related field or native fluency.
  • Two to three years of experience teaching French or completion of a teaching certification program.
  • Intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Digital literacy with proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google applications.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • MA/MS or equivalent in French or related field.
  • Understanding of ACTFL Standards and Proficiency-Based Assessment.
  • Five years of experience teaching at secondary or postsecondary levels.
  • Interest in leadership opportunities within the department.
  • Experience with innovation in teaching French and technology integration.
  • Experience in teaching English Language Learners (ELL), particularly international students.

Responsibilities

  • Create, communicate, and maintain clear learning objectives aligned with departmental goals.
  • Provide frequent, constructive feedback to students.
  • Engage in the school-wide Learning and Teaching program and apply professional feedback.
  • Design assessments and activities to support student learning and growth.
  • Promote cultural diversity and respect within the classroom.
  • Collaborate proactively with colleagues and communicate professionally with families and students.
  • Establish relationships with students and families to promote learning and community building.
  • Differentiate instruction and experiment with teaching strategies.
  • Maintain appropriate standards for student behavior using Restorative Practice methods.
  • Attend division and academic department meetings, and participate in school activities and events.
  • Engage in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion development activities.
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students.
  • Design and implement co-curricular mini-courses and experiential education courses.
