About The Position

The Quad Preparatory School is looking for a special education building substitute for our Upper School (grades 6-12) division. The substitute will fill in for head teacher absences to provide coverage-based instruction and social-emotional support to students. Our classrooms typically consist of eight or fewer students. Teachers have the opportunity to receive mentorship, coaching, and support from the clinicians as well as academic administrators.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education (any subject area), special education, or a related field.
  • Special education training, including training in the areas of gifted education and twice-exceptional youth.
  • Secondary (any subject) and/or special education teaching credential.
  • Experience teaching twice-exceptional youth.

Responsibilities

  • Take on the responsibilities of a head teacher, following lesson plans that are provided and/or the directions of other classroom teachers.
  • Develop and be ready to implement “emergency” lesson plans in the event a teacher’s absence is unexpected and plans are not readily available.
  • Push into the homeroom classes for interdisciplinary lessons and classroom support on days when substitute coverage is not needed.
  • Develop rapport with a wide range of students in order to create relationships that will lead to successful substitute class work.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills that allow students to thrive; establish clear expectations and routines, support students’ executive functioning skills, and provide a firm yet caring approach to classroom expectations.
  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks for Upper School faculty and administration on days when substitute coverage is not needed.
  • Follow the professional code and policies of the school and conduct oneself in a way that promotes the mission of the school.
  • Utilize Google Suite, in particular Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets.
  • Attend all faculty and staff meetings and required special events (e.g., open houses, Curriculum Night, Carnivale).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
