About The Position

The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a Physics teacher. We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individual who wants to work in a collaborative and diverse academic setting with both high school students and adults. The Lawrenceville Science Department encourages students to develop an appreciation of the nature of scientific knowledge and the practice of scientific inquiry, to be curious about the natural world, and to become scientifically-informed citizens.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success teaching Physics principles at introductory and upper levels.
  • Demonstrated success teaching Physics using applied and relevant context.
  • Demonstrated success teaching about the nature of scientific knowledge and scientific inquiry.
  • Demonstrated success planning and facilitating collaborative, student-centered classes.
  • Demonstrated success in collaboration with colleagues in curriculum development, course coverage and clearly communicating expectations to students.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Physics or related field, or M. Ed. with a bachelor’s in Physics (or related field). Additional background in Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Engineering a plus.
  • A passion for developing student interest in science and scientific inquiry.
  • At least two years of high school teaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional background in Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Engineering a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections/term; two to three preps per trimester.
  • Two seasons of coaching or equivalent co-curricular commitment, including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
  • Advise five to eight students.
  • One evening a week of “House duty,” providing supervision in a student residence from 6-11:30 pm.
  • Faculty who reside in School-provided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career; although not necessarily starting their first year.
  • Chaperone a weekend activity (dance, coffee house, etc.) twice per term.
  • Other duties as assigned
