Determines work priorities, plans schedules, assigns, and reviews subordinates’ work. Monitors and evaluates the performances of subordinates; initiates disciplinary actions as necessary, conducts internal investigation as necessary. Conducts some administrative investigation involving minor complaints about personnel within the command. Directs and oversees the preparation of a variety of special reviews, reports, analysis, and plans pertaining to various agency operations and procedures; review a variety of operational and administrative records reflecting the activities of agency personnel. Identifies community concerns and problems through interaction with community members; determine possible solutions and implements problem solving techniques; review related outputs adjusts responses as necessary; attends and participates in community groups on a variety of topic. Mains frequent contact with students, parents, staff, faculty, and the public regarding the mission of the University Police as well as university safety, security, criminal and other related matters. Responds to scenes of emergencies, disturbances, or disasters and assumes command of agency and support personnel according to protocol. Oversees preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witness, suspects, and confidential informants and by collecting, preserving, and processing evidence; performs searches, conducts surveillance; participants in raids or search parties. Mediates disputes and advises victims, suspects, and public on rights and processes; performs crisis mediation with persons involved in a domestic and civil disputes and persons attempting suicide; responds to and handles hostage/barricade situations. Maintains all assigned equipment, including vehicle, firearms and uniforms in the manner prescribed by the Department. Oversee the field Training program for new UPO I’s II’s, III’s, reviews weekly reports and prepares summary reports relating to this training. Schedules, plans and staff the special events that are happening on campus. Submits, reviews, and approves the billing statements for those events where the agency is reimbursed for its service.
