UPMC's High School Co-Op program is a paid opportunity for high school students currently enrolled in their Senior year. During this semester-long program, students will work a weekly shift as a Care Attendant in one of several departments throughout the hospital. Throughout the program, students will rotate through departments including the ICU, Emergency Department, Rehab, Birthplace, OR and Respiratory. Participants will also have a six-week shadowing experience on a Med-Surg unit. Co-op participation will occur every Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the spring semester, and students must participate in mandatory training in December prior to beginning their work experience. Program participants must be in good academic standing and have support from their school to participate in the co-op program.
