About The Position

The Upholsterer is to perform a wide variety of tasks in a boat manufacturing facility. Fabrication tasks performed may include sewing, upholstering, assembling, fitting, and cutting material. At Brunswick, we have passion for our work and a distinct ability to deliver.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand production schedule and maintain time studies for production status and communication
  • Ability to read and understand job descriptions and prints
  • Ability to read and understand measuring equipment
  • Ability to operate sewing machine, staple guns, nail guns, da sander, snap set, hammers, hot-knife cutters, and other industrial equipment
  • Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and documents as it relates to the quality system
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours to support the requirements of the business
  • Must always possess the desire and ambition to work safely and report all hazards to their supervisor immediately
  • Must understand basic terminology such as OSHA, DEP, and other regulatory agencies
  • Must be able to understand and complete the OSHA questionnaire, pass spirometer test, and physically wear a respirator where required
  • Must be able to physically handle the requirements of the job, including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, standing, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to understand all safety related document and worksite rules and practices, equipment operating instructions, documented safety management systems, and health and safety requirements

Responsibilities

  • Assemble tack and fine tune marine seating components
  • Sews various fabrics including vinyl and clear vinyl from patterns or measurements
  • Ability to troubleshoot to solve sewing/upholstery problems
  • Discuss complications or assembly line slowdowns with supervisors and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity
  • Ability to top stitch and create new patterns
  • Able to switch jobs whenever needed to help in the absence of other team members
  • Install foam cushioning onto seating substrates
  • Wrap foam cushioning with sewn vinyl skins
  • Align seams and seating features
  • Ensure products meet quality standards
  • Inspect substrates and skins for defects and address as needed prior to upholstery application
  • Other duties, as assigned
