About The Position

The Service and Field Technician positions at NiSource are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of gas distribution facilities, including gas meters and service lines. Technicians will address service inquiries, perform leak tests, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. These roles require strong mechanical skills, customer service abilities, and the capacity to work in various conditions, including emergency situations and non-traditional shifts.

Requirements

• Diploma from an accredited high school or GED.
• Ability to understand and apply mechanical principles.
• Demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer service experience.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to follow through on assignments.
• Ability to work effectively under changing priorities.
• Must complete Service Department training program and pass testing within 12 months.
• Ability to obtain a valid Ohio Operators and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 3 months.

Nice To Haves

• Experience reading/interpreting gauges and dials.
• Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas experience.
• Working knowledge of MDT (Mobile Data Terminal).
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations concerning pipeline safety.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove gas meters, meter settings, and regulators.
• Inspect and test service and house lines for leaks.
• Use test instruments to service and adjust gas appliances.
• Investigate gas service inquiries, including leaks and gas odors.
• Advise plumbers and contractors on installations.
• Turn gas on/off for customers.
• Collect delinquent bills and read meters.
• Locate, clean, and repair curb boxes.
• Use pressure gauges and gas detection instruments to locate leaks.
• Pinpoint leakage and make repairs on distribution facilities.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment and maintain it.
