The Unwind Rewind Operator is responsible for learning and executing all aspects of unwind and rewind operations within the print department. This role ensures that raw materials meet customer specifications, prepares rolls for printing, and manages the rewind process, including quality control and packaging of finished products.

  • Verify raw materials at the unwind station conform to customer specifications and retain documentation.
  • Prep rolls by removing damaged or non-conforming paperboard.
  • Move prepped rolls onto the conveyor.
  • Set up inline splicing mechanism and associated procedures.
  • Prepare for continuous printing operations by readying consumable supplies and components.
  • Complete the rewind process by retaining a quality impression for each completed roll.
  • Apply job identification labels to each finished roll.
  • Complete packaging of finished rolls by completing the banding process.
  • Transport finished rolls from the print room to the staging area using a powered industrial truck (PIT).
  • Follow instructions from the machine operator as required.
  • Participate in monthly safety engagement and daily area cleanup.
  • Engage in monthly preventative maintenance activities.
  • Perform other job duties as required.
  • Ability to read and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to learn to identify specific tools used in the printing process.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and in a high-pressure environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills, both mechanical and computer-related.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed and flex schedule to meet production needs.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Mechanical knowledge of gears and the printing process.
