In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year, the History Department invites a pool of qualified persons interested in the supervision of secondary teacher candidates in History and Social Science education. Supervisors are needed in both Central Illinois and the Chicagoland area. Applications are accepted continuously for part-time, non-tenure-track positions and reviewed as vacancies become available. This position involves mentoring teacher candidates in their student teaching internships. The university supervisor is a liaison between ISU and the school district personnel, primarily the cooperating teacher. The supervisor is responsible for observing the student teacher on-site and providing a formal assessment of the teacher candidate's teaching experience. This requires multiple on-site observations with brief post-conference meetings and a small number of visits to Illinois State University in Normal, IL during the academic year. In addition to regular online communication throughout the semester, supervisors assess teacher candidates' online reflections and collaborate with the Cooperating Teacher and ISU faculty in assessing the professional growth and final grade for teacher candidates.
