The University Student Assistant/Chanticleer editor-in-chief plans, manages, and supervises the coverage and publication of The Chanticleer, JSU’s student-run news organization, across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other forms of media. The editor-in-chief ensures The Chanticleer provides timely, editorially independent news coverage of events that are important and/or interesting to JSU students and the broader university community. The student in this position oversees the news organization’s student staff with the assistance and advice of the director of student media, with whom the editor-in-chief must work closely on all matters relating to content and publication. The editor-in-chief must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide for The Chanticleer’s newsgathering and publication. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs. Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.
