About The Position
The University Police Communications & Security Specialist 1 is the 911 Emergency Operator and Dispatcher for the University, Hospital, and Long Island State Veterans Home. They act as an intermediary with Suffolk Police and EMS as well as maintain contact with various Fire Departments. This position involves operating as the 911 emergency operator for the University Police Department and coordinating the dispatch desk for the campus. The specialist will maintain radio contact with mobile and foot patrols to coordinate activities and serve as the main point of contact for persons, on or off campus, to request information about campus events, request services, and report emergencies. Additionally, the role includes maintaining a variety of logs and records of all law enforcement-related activities, monitoring central station alarm systems, and continually viewing surveillance monitors to dispatch patrols to investigate any unusual situations.
