About The Position

The University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Assistant Professor for the Surgical Outcomes Research Center (SORCE). This role focuses on conducting outcomes research related to surgical procedures, developing methodologies, translating research into clinical practice, and mentoring trainees. The successful candidate will also contribute to strategic planning, develop partnerships, secure funding, and disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • MD degree (or foreign equivalent) or a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in medical sciences or a related field.
  • Regional or national reputation in surgical outcomes research.
  • Strong track record of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to translate research findings into clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research with a strong publication record.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as documented by letters of recommendation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outcomes research assessing the impact of surgical procedures on patients and the healthcare system.
  • Develop comprehensive research methodologies for outcomes research.
  • Translate research findings into clinical practice to improve surgical care quality.
  • Mentor and educate fellows, residents, staff, and trainees in research methodologies.
  • Participate in the strategic planning of SORCE's initiatives and evaluate ongoing projects.
  • Build and maintain collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grant writing.
  • Present research outcomes at conferences and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
