About The Position

The University Master Police Officer at Georgetown University is responsible for performing law enforcement functions on campus to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves policing, patrolling, event security, investigations, and emergency response, while also supporting the university community through information and assistance. The officer will prepare incident reports, conduct preliminary investigations, and serve as a Watch Commander in the absence of a Police Sergeant, among other duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent); College Degree Preferred.
  • At least 3 years of security related/law enforcement/military experience and community policing.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no violations in the last three years.
  • Must pass a written test, report writing test, drug test, physical examination, and psychological testing.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation and qualify for a Campus Special Police Officer's Commission.
  • Must have current certification in Baton/OC Spray and complete the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent.
  • Must possess intermediate knowledge of criminal and civil law and police practices and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in using computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment is desirable.
  • Administrative and clerical skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform law enforcement functions to protect life and property on University property.
  • Prepare accurate and thorough incident reports.
  • Initiate preliminary investigations of criminal and traffic incidents.
  • Support victims of crime and attend court for case review and testimony.
  • Serve as Watch Commander in the absence of a Police Sergeant.
  • Gather and report intelligence related to public safety and crime prevention.
  • Identify and analyze recurring community problems and prepare responses.
  • Conduct speaking presentations on identified topics without supervision.
  • Monitor burglar/security alarms, cameras, and fire alarms.
