The Universal Banker I role at MidWestOne Bank is an entry-level position in retail banking focused on conducting banking transactions and providing exceptional customer service. This role is essential in establishing and updating retail services to meet customer needs, resolving complaints, and opening basic deposit accounts. The position emphasizes a culture of integrity and customer care, aiming to develop employees personally and professionally.

  • Processes teller counter transactions with a variety of complexity and helps to answer customer questions and service needs.
  • Recommends appropriate retail accounts and services by explaining unique features and benefits to the customer.
  • Informs customers of services offered by other business lines and connects customers to an appropriate banker when necessary.
  • Uses bank technology and resources to keep customer information current and inform them of additional ways to meet their needs.
  • Overcomes customer concerns and resolves any complaints related to deposit account transactions.
  • Assists customers with a variety of retail service needs including ordering and closing personal ATM/Debit cards, resolving transaction errors, handling fraudulent transactions, and more.
  • Serves as a resource to assist less experienced staff with transactions as needed; handles and is accountable for overrides processed with those transactions.
  • Locates and resolves discrepancies for self and assists with other retail associates as needed.
  • Performs a variety of branch operational duties on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including opening and closing duties, balancing accounts, and completing night drop and mail logs.
  • Serves as backup support for basic account opening and ownership updates.
  • May fill in at various retail branch locations as needed.
  • Actively participates in community events to represent MidWest One Bank, assists with customer outreach, and demonstrates support for company culture.
  • High school degree or equivalent with some related work experience.
  • Prefer 1-2 years of experience in a customer service-related role.
  • Banking or financial experience is preferred.
