A Research Specialist II is needed for proteomic biomarker studies. Studies will require proteomic sample preparation, HPLC, tandem mass spectrometry, database searching, proteomic analysis at the protein and peptide level and integration with mass spectrometry imaging experiments.

  • Sample organization and preparation, familiar with randomization approaches to pre-prep sample organization using clinical characteristics and sample preparation for mass spectrometry studies.
  • Data analysis, collaborating with multiple labs for image data processing and data modeling by simulators.
  • Using a variety of programs such as Excel, GraphPad, ImageJ, SPSS, python, and R to report data.
  • Conducting high throughput assays.
  • Training students or visiting scholars in laboratory workflows surrounding proteomics.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, including system suitability tests on equipment used in each part of the study.
  • Keeping the lab safe, clean, and compliant by following PPE and MUSC guidelines for safety in the laboratory.
  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science.
  • One year work experience directly related to the assigned research area.
  • Experience in proteomics, chromatography, mass spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry, trapped ion mobility, orbitrap, isotopic labeling, DIA, DDA, post-translational modifications.
  • A college degree in chemistry, biology or one of the biological sciences.
