Seeking experienced and self-motivated candidate for the position of Research Assistant Professor available in the laboratory of Dr. Ozgur Sahin. Dr. Sahin is a Professor and SmartState Endowed Chair in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at MUSC. Sahin's laboratory focuses on identifying the mechanisms of drug resistance/metastasis and target these resistance/metastasis-driving factors with either own developed compounds or available drugs to overcome resistance/block metastasis. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of overcoming resistance to therapy and metastasis in breast cancer. The candidate will handle various Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology tools and techniques, Western blots, co-IP, qPCR, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, cell-based growth and apoptosis assays, CRISPR-Cas9 gene knockout and high-throughput sequencing technologies, such as single cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq. Furthermore, the candidate will prepare grants and assist the PI of the lab on writing grants proposals in addition to supervising junior members of the lab.

  • Provide unique leadership in molecular biology & biochemistry (continuum of technologies and direct mentoring laboratory skills to younger members) in the laboratory.
  • Conduct in vitro experiments to overcome therapy resistance and block metastasis by combining several cell-based assays and doing detailed biochemistry experiments.
  • Preparation of data for dissemination; duties include preparing figures and writing manuscripts, presenting data at local and national conferences, and preparing grants and assisting the PI of the lab on writing grants proposals.
  • Maintain accurate detailed records of all experiments performed on a daily basis.
  • Requires a PhD, with significant scientific accomplishments and a track record of publishing.
  • Minimum two first author papers in high impact journals.
  • Strong biochemistry and molecular biology expertise.
  • Analyze and interpret data and write the results.
  • Write manuscripts.
  • Design and write grants for extramural support both independently and as a team with Dr. Sahin.
