Serve as Landscaper Team Leader for the Medical University of South Carolina. Oversee and partake in the maintenance of the landscape.
Lead a Landscaping Team staff of 1-3 individuals to landscape and hardscape grounds based upon season and priority.
Follow a daily schedule of MUSC properties to landscape, including pruning using power sheers and manual hedgers, weed eating, mowing, edging, laying pine straw, mulching, picking up leaves and debris, and other general landscape maintenance duties.
Assist other team members by performing tree maintenance, chemical applications, annual plantings, landscape plantings, and other tasks as needed.
Monitor all trees, shrubs and turf for disease and insect damage; properly identify harmful insects and disease and determine when and how to provide control of landscape insects and disease utilizing a combination of biological, cultural, physical/mechanical and chemical management tools.
Perform other grounds maintenance tasks as needed to include picking up litter, pressure washing sidewalks, etc.
Provide Mandatory Hazardous Weather preparedness and support during critical times. Schedule and lead the landscaping team to ensure that the grounds and areas of the facility are prepared for hazardous weather.
A high school diploma.
Three years custodial, grounds keeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
Ability to perform job functions in an upright position.
Ability to perform job functions while walking/mobile.
Ability to climb and work from ladders.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes.
Ability to work from elevated areas.
Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions.
Ability to bend at the waist.
Ability to lift and carry weights of 50 lbs. or greater, a distance of 20 feet, unassisted.
Ability to lift and carry weights of 100 lbs. or greater, assisted.
Ability to lift objects, up to 15 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted.
Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.
Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
Ability to control movement of power operated equipment.
Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use.
Ability to push/pull carts, mowers, etc.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
Successful completion of DHEC certification as a commercial pesticide applicator.
