About The Position

As a Unitizer Operator at Pratt Industries – Houston, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of palletizing equipment. Your responsibilities will include operating the unitizer and related machinery, ensuring accurate stacking and wrapping of products, and maintaining quality control throughout the process. You will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and optimizing production efficiency while maintaining a clean and organized work space.

Requirements

  • Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Six months of manufacturing experience or a combination of both is beneficial.
  • Material Handling: Ability to operate a forklift safely when required. May need to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator Certification.
  • Quality Control: Attention to detail in inspecting finished units and verifying order accuracy.
  • Production Monitoring: Ability to complete reports related to production, safety, and machine operations.
  • Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Physical Requirements: Regular standing, walking, and reaching. Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling may be required.
  • Certifications: Forklift Operator Certification may be required.
  • Work Environment: Exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, loud noise, and varying environmental conditions. Some tasks may require working in humid, wet, or high-risk areas.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the unitizer and corresponding equipment, ensuring proper placement of bands and stretch wrap.
  • Ensure unit tags and cover sheets are placed correctly and stacking patterns are followed.
  • Scan barcodes on units moving through the unitizer to ensure tracking accuracy.
  • Build neat and structurally sound units with the correct number of bands, dunnage, load tags, and pallets.
  • Monitor order accuracy, ensuring unit and order quantities are correct.
  • Remove excess scrap from units before processing.
  • Operate a forklift safely when required.
  • Cross-train assistants and utility helpers to improve workflow and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain equipment by proactively identifying maintenance needs and submitting timely repair requests.
  • Adhere to production schedules, optimizing processes to improve cost, quality, and service goals.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety regulations, good housekeeping practices, and sanitation standards.
  • Comply with corporate Quality, Sanitation, GMP, and HACCP standards to meet quality control specifications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
