About The Position

Catholic Charities is seeking a hands-on, compassionate, trauma-informed, and detail-oriented professional who takes pride in creating safe, dignified housing for people moving out of homelessness. The Unit Turn Technician ensures timely and high-quality apartment turnovers, creating safe, functional, and welcoming homes for Catholic Charities clients. This role is essential to helping individuals move from homelessness to housing quickly and with dignity. In addition to apartment turns, the Technician assists with day-to-day facilities operations across multiple Catholic Charities properties, supporting safety, maintenance, and upkeep. The position performs tasks across several building trades and includes light custodial work as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and building safety.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in building maintenance, room turns, or a related trade.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license required.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Windows-based systems
  • Commitment to working compassionately and respectfully with diverse and/or low-income populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, or mental illness.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a building maintenance or trade program preferred.
  • HVAC experience preferred.
  • Reliable personal vehicle covered with minimum Minnesota insurance requirements
  • Relevant trade licensure or certification (e.g., HVAC, boiler, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or appliance repair) and/or Maintenance Technician Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Turn over recently vacated units to prepare them for new residents.
  • Perform moderate cleaning to ensure readiness for occupancy, coordinate with contracted cleaning teams for specialized needs.
  • Complete light repairs—replace fixtures, patch and paint walls, repair or replace flooring, and confirm all doors, windows, and appliances function properly.
  • Identify maintenance or cleaning needs that require contracted support and communicate promptly to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset, ensuring a safe environment for both residents and staff.
  • Support ongoing maintenance requests and facility repairs as assigned.
  • Use a company or personal vehicle to travel between properties and pick up supplies; mileage reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use.
  • Monitor properties for needed repairs or replacements.
  • Practice environmental responsibility by ensuring proper waste and recycling management and promptly reporting hazardous conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
