About The Position

This is a multi-skilled position requiring patient care and clerical duties. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional nurse (nurse), the Certified Nursing Aide - Unit Support Associate provides care appropriate to the patient population served and daily routine patient care needs. The CNA-USA performs their duties based on the unit care delivery model. This role collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to deliver care as outlined by the nurse. In addition, the CNA-USA performs a variety of duties and may serve as a health unit coordinator, monitor tech, perform secretarial or clerical duties for unit leadership, or serve in another specialized capacity as unit needs dictate. The CNA-USA adheres to a culture reflective of Centra's best practices for quality and service, creates and maintains a safe patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. The CNA's practice reflects the laws and regulations for a Certified Nurse Aide as outlined by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a state approved Nurse Aide education program.
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Aide by the Department of Health Professions of Virginia.
  • Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • At least 1 year of recent acute care experience.
  • Clinical background within a Cardiology setting.
  • Experience in Home Health.
  • Experience in Hospice or Homecare.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and documents patient care under the direction of the registered or licensed practical nurse and as outlined in the plan of care.
  • Promotes patient comfort by answering call lights and communicating observations or patient needs to the nursing staff.
  • Contributes to a safe and efficient admission, transfer, and/or discharge process.
  • Maintains patient rights to comfort, privacy, and dignity in the process of providing care.
  • Creates and maintains a clean and safe environment on the unit and within patient rooms.
  • Communicates and collaborates with staff, families and other departments utilizing effective communication skills.
  • Effectively coordinates communications involving incoming calls, pages, nurse call light system, and other modalities.
  • Follows organization's policies and procedures in the delivery of care and while interacting with other caregivers.
  • May handle medication that is delivered by the Pharmacy and transport the medication to an appropriate storage area.
  • Applies unit service excellence best practices in approaching patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Uses resources cost effectively.
  • Participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Consistently practices Centra safety behaviors.
  • Handles conflict resolution opportunities in an appropriate, timely, and consistent manner.
  • Engages in own professional development.
