About The Position

The Campus Recreation and Wellness Department of the Division of Student Affairs is seeking to hire a Unit Specialist (Wellness Programs Coordinator). The Unit Specialist collaborates to carry out responsibilities for the development, coordination, and delivery of holistic wellness initiatives that support the overall well-being of students in the University community. Grounded in the Eight Dimensions of Wellness (physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, career, spiritual, financial), this position integrates wellness best practices throughout the University landscape through collaborative programming, campus partnerships, and evidence-based strategies. The Unit Specialist works closely with other Campus Recreation and Wellness staff, other Student Affairs departments, and University academic departments to ensure programming is accessible and engaging, and that programming efforts foster a sense of belonging for the University community. One unique facet of this position involves providing tailored wellness coaching to students, student leaders, and registered student organizations. The coordinator functions in a team-oriented environment that requires effective collaboration and an acute understanding of the University, the Division of Student Affairs, and departmental milieu in which wellness programs exist as well as establishing a network of collaborators across campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in population-based assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of evidence-based wellness education
  • Experience managing fitness class programming or facilitating fitness assessments, personal training services, or other fitness programs, with the ability to teach classes or directly facilitate programs as necessary
  • Articulated knowledge of wellness and well-being factors that impact college student success and sense of belonging
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging presentations and workshops for small and large audiences
  • Ability to communicate wellness-related information in ways that are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for students
  • Ability to work effectively with students, student leaders, and student organizations to help them implement well-being practices within their lives and/or to implement best practices within their organizations
  • Knowledge of the University, the Division of Student Affairs, and the departmental milieu in which wellness programs exist
  • Experience integrating principles of support, collaboration, and community-building into all aspects of wellness program management
  • Experience with a variety of wellness communication strategies, including digital platforms and social media
  • Valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates to plan, develop, evaluate, and implement theory and evidence-based wellness programs and services that are responsive to a broad range of health and well-being needs within the University community and that reflect the Eight Dimensions of Wellness
  • Represents Campus Recreation and Wellness at wellness and other campus-wide events and student programs alongside other wellness-focused departments
  • Supports campus-wide wellness campaigns aligned with the Department’s mission and vision
  • Provides tailored wellness coaching for individuals and registered student organizations to facilitate their success in fostering individual and/or organizational wellness and well-being
  • Provides tailored coaching to student leaders and organizations to facilitate student leaders and student organization wellness and well-being
  • Coordinates wellness education programs inclusive of scheduling, reserving facilities, and program marketing
  • Assists to integrate wellness education into existing campus, fitness, and wellness programs
  • Partners with faculty, other departments, and student organizations to enhance and promote student wellness programming
  • Researches and explores new prevention/wellness grant opportunities aligned with the Department’s and the University’s mission, values, and priorities
  • Represents Campus Recreation and Wellness by actively participating in university, local, state, and national professional wellness education and higher education organizations
  • Actively participates within university wellness committees, coalitions, and task forces
  • Collects and analyzes wellness program participation and impact data
  • Promotes wellness services and events utilizing various communication channels
  • Develops educational materials that support holistic wellness, well-being, and positive lifestyle practices
  • Ensures wellness programs align with university policies and evidence-informed best practices appropriate to higher education settings
  • Assists with other departments and division initiatives as necessary including, but not limited to, freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and housing move-in
  • Executes other duties as assigned
