About The Position

The unit is a Level 3 trauma center with 15 operating rooms in the Magnet Designated Corewell Health System. It is a center of excellence for bariatrics and total joints. Approximately 40% of cases are comprised of total joints and elective spine cases, with the remaining 60% comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic and ENT surgeries. Blodgett Surgery is a high-tech environment with 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, Mazor and Stealth technology. The OR is a team environment where Nurses, Surgical Technologists and Surgery Support Staff work together to care for patients and support surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout the surgical procedure. The Blodgett OR team also serves as the patient advocate while the patient is under anesthesia. OR staff must use precise, critical thinking, often within a short time frame, while keeping cost effective quality care and patient safety at the forefront. The Unit Secretary is the point person on each unit for clerical support.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• 2 years of relevant/related experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Taking phone calls
• Helping with directions to all visitors and outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services, etc)
• Calling support when directed by clinical staff
• Assisting with discharge/admit/transfer paperwork
• Ordering supplies
• Ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked
• Answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs
