The Unit Secretary provides clerical and administrative support to a hospital unit, ensuring smooth communication and coordination among patients, families, and healthcare staff. Requirements

  • Basic Life Support certification if also works as Clinical Tech
  • None Required Licensure
  • None Required Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent Education

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of clerical activities and unit-specific work to support department operations.
  • Answers phones and directs calls to appropriate staff.
  • Greets patients, families, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintains and organizes patient charts and unit records.
  • Relays messages between nursing staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Assists with scheduling tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Notifies staff of patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Enters patient information into electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Prepares and files forms, reports, and other documents.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Monitors and orders office and unit supplies as needed.
  • Ensures forms, labels, and other materials are stocked and accessible.
  • Schedules diagnostic tests and lab work as prescribed by nursing and medical staff.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.
