Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Keyboarding skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • None required.
  • No experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology or completion of a Health Unit Coordinator Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a receptionist for the unit, greeting and directing visitors, staff, and others in a courteous and informative manner.
  • Transcribe physicians’ orders promptly, accurately, and completely according to established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate consultation requests to physicians or therapists promptly and accurately.
  • Perform data entry; assemble, compile, and break down medical records as required.
  • Prepare and copy designated medical record information for transfer to other facilities.
  • Answer phone calls, route callers, assist with paging, take messages, and provide routine information.
  • Respond to patient call lights in person or via intercom; address requests or refer them to appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Communicate effectively in all interactions.
  • Work under the direction of the charge nurse.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments for patients.
  • Maintain working knowledge of office and departmental equipment.
  • Submit work orders for housekeeping, maintenance, biomedical services, or other required support.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to promote and maintain a safe environment.
  • Demonstrate compassion to support a therapeutic environment.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas where medications are stored.
  • Maintain pre-established par levels of office supplies for the unit.
  • Assist with stocking both office and unit supplies.
  • Monitor time and attendance through Kronos or another timekeeping system.
  • Prioritize workload to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including Federal, State, local, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable regulations (ADA, FMLA, etc.).
  • Comply with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized unit environment.
