About The Position

Paradise Valley Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, is an award-winning acute care hospital in National City, serving San Diego for over 100 years. It features the San Diego Spine & Joint Center, a highly credentialed acute rehabilitation center, our Paradise Health & Senior Center, a fully equipped and modern cardiac catheterization lab, and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical services, and 24-hour emergency services. In addition to healthcare services, the hospital offers comprehensive behavioral health services on the hospital campus and Bayview campus in Chula Vista, including psychiatric continuum of care for adult patients, inpatient services, and intensive outpatient services. The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting, facilitating communication, transcribing physician orders (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system), preparing and compiling records on the Behavioral Health Unit, ordering supplies for the unit, preparing and completing each patient's chart for necessary forms daily, and assisting nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care. This role is directly accountable to the Director of Behavioral Health Services, and indirectly to the Charge Nurse and/or House Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Patient Rights Education/Competency within 60 days of hire and maintain current as deemed necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the continuum of care for Behavioral Health preferred.
  • Two years of experience using computers for word processing, database management and spreadsheets preferred; (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook & Excel preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the communication needs of the department.
  • Transcribes physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system) with notation and signature by nursing staff.
  • Prepares and compiles records on the Behavioral Health Unit.
  • Orders supplies for the unit.
  • Prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis.
  • Able to assist nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care.
