About The Position

GENERAL OVERVIEW: Performs secretarial and direct patient care duties for a designated unit. Maintains the medical record, performs direct patient care for all types of patients. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection and all other treatments. (20%) Transcribes orders in accordance with policies and procedures subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary. (30%) Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer and discharge, maintenance of patient activities for the records, interdepartmental communications and unit reception. (30%) Demonstrates effective communication (verbal and written) with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient care. (20%) Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year of patient care and/or administrative experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • 36 hours per week with 3 x 12 hours Rotational Shift
  • flexible to work a rotational schedule which includes, evening , overnight , and weekend coverage

Nice To Haves

  • Previous unit secretary experience or graduate of an approved unit secretary program.
  • Experience as a PCA or EMT.
