This job performs many functions which support patient care and the department. Handles admit/discharge/transfer functions, manages reservation and processing activities, manages phones and call bells, and refers requests from patients, family, and staff to the appropriate personnel. This job plays an important role in enhancing the patient experience by ensuring follow up to patient requests and needs in a timely fashion.

  • Provides clerical support for the department and Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Serves as Patient Experience Ambassador for the unit.
  • Adapts to rapid changes in the unit / department in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Assesses EPIC chart reports to ensure unit charges/utilization are maintained adequately.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
  • Education Required - High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Ability to and experience exercising good judgment in handling difficult situations.
  • Effective planning, organizing and time management skills.
  • Work Experience Preferred - Experience in the medical/healthcare industry
  • Certifications Preferred - Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
