About The Position

The Unit Secretary at Penn Medicine provides essential clerical support to the clinical staff on the unit, ensuring efficient operations and contributing to high-quality patient care. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (H.S. Diploma/GED required).
  • Clerical experience in a medical/psychiatric setting preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and maintains unit files and patient charts.
  • Assists in processing admission, discharge, and transfer paperwork.
  • Answers telephone calls professionally and relays messages efficiently.
  • Maintains and organizes nursing, patient, and unit supplies, replenishing them in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and organizes patient medical records, restocking with paper and labeling.
  • Develops clerical expertise through attendance at relevant staff development programs.
  • Maintains a pleasant and professional attitude towards patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Mentors new employees during their orientation process.
  • Supports customer service goals and collaborates with staff to enhance patient care.
  • Maintains confidentiality standards.
  • Participates in unit staff meetings and completes unit-specific competencies.
  • Attends in-services and education programs to enhance knowledge.
  • Keeps the nurse's station clean and orderly.
  • Performs other assigned duties and projects.
  • Ensures unit compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in safety-related procedures, such as codes and drills.
  • Assists in orienting new Unit Secretaries to their duties.
