Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with medical files and terminology.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver superior quality in all that you do and treat others as they wish to be treated.
  • Be a results-oriented team player who is resourceful in overcoming obstacles.
  • Use independent judgment to provide clerical services to the patient care units.
  • Correctly transcribe orders and file all reports.
  • Arrange for transportation and follow-up/outside tests.
  • Answer the telephone and take and deliver messages by phone or verbally.
  • Maintain close communication with the Charge Nurse/House Supervisor.
  • Handle all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Order supplies from Materials Management as needed.
  • Verify physician privileges prior to transcribing orders.
  • Appropriately transcribe and flag orders from charts.
  • Arrange for transport of patients for tests that are not offered in the hospital.
