About The Position

This is a multi-functional job requiring incumbents to be cross-trained to perform Unit Secretary duties as well as at least one other clinical support job for at least 20% of their time in each role. Cross-training may include roles such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, and/or Monitor Technician. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the role provides excellent customer service, clerical and administrative services, monitors, orders, and stocks supplies, and maintains a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Additional functions, performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, may involve observing cardiac monitors for abnormal rhythms, collecting patient status data, performing basic nursing procedures, monitoring, measuring, and documenting patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and maintaining patient care equipment. The percentage of time spent in clinical support may vary by unit, but a minimum of 20% of the time will be in a clinical support role.

Requirements

  • Unit Secretary training program or on-the-job training.
  • After hire, US/Monitor Techs are required to attend the formal arrhythmia training class and successfully complete the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
  • Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if selected into a monitor tech role.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech or nursing fundamentals class preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform effective customer service skills, including responding to patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism, and efficiency; walking visitors to their destination, and answering phones/intercoms in a friendly manner.
  • Participate in patient care rounding in collaboration with unit staff, including daily introductions to patient/families with the use of AIDET.
  • Manage ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager.
  • Perform unit operation responsibilities including daily monitoring of supplies, ordering office supplies, ordering special supplies, monitoring PAR levels of supplies, and maintaining/organizing unit supply rooms.
  • Perform general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls via intercom or in person.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support as needed for the unit, including data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
  • Perform one of the following duties on a nursing unit per the description: PCT/NST/Certified Nursing Assistant/Monitor Tech (referencing specific job duties for these roles).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
