About The Position

The position involves maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date patient records as prescribed by established Emergency Center policies and procedures. This includes obtaining old records, reports, results, dictation, transcription, etc., as instructed. The role also requires answering phones, relaying calls and messages, and coordinating transport resources by established Emergency Center, CCH, and regulatory agency policies. The individual will be responsible for copying and faxing materials as requested, obtaining, correlating, and processing records and reports as required. Adherence to departmental operating procedures and maintaining a cooperative relationship with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors, and allied healthcare professionals is essential. The position demands proficiency in the use of Computerized Nursing Informatics for looking up records and maintaining confidentiality regarding patients. Additionally, the individual must maintain an adequate quantity of forms, materials, and supplies within their workstation and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare informatics systems.
  • Successful passage of medical terminology course, or successful passage of medical terminology challenge exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Secretary/Medical Receptionist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date patient records as prescribed by established Emergency Center policies and procedures.
  • Answers phones, relays calls and/or messages, calls ancillary departments, private physicians, other healthcare facilities, etc.
  • Coordinates all transport resources by established Emergency Center, CCH and regulatory agency policies, procedures, standards and recommendations.
  • Copies and faxes materials as requested, obtains, correlates and processes records and reports as required.
  • Adheres to departmental operating procedures and maintains a cooperative and courteous relationship with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and accuracy in the use of Computerized Nursing Informatics for looking up records.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients.
  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies within workstation.
  • Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by immediate supervisor.
