About The Position

The Unit Secretary / Certified Nursing Assistant assists the nursing and medical staff by acting as receptionist, unit liaison, and secretary for the nursing unit. The US / CNA may provide patient care. The US / CNA may perform selected nursing procedures as defined in the Patient Care Standards Manual Nursing Procedure Manual. The US/CNA transports non-controlled medications to and from pharmacy. The US / CNA will perform at least 50% Unit Secretary duties. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the US / CNA provides a support function to the nurse by coordinating special tasks and assisting where needed. The Unit Secretary / Certified Nursing Assistant collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.

Requirements

  • One year experience utilizing clerical, computer and receptionist skills
  • Current Certification with the CA Department of Health Services Licensing & Certification Board
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Management of assaultive behavior training within one year of hire (Behavioral Health only) (department tracking)
  • Must demonstrate technical competence.
  • Must have knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public.
  • Must show sensitivity for the hospitalized patient and family.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
  • Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite) computer skills for a variety of support functions.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential.
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
