About The Position

Are you excited about mentoring youth and creating meaningful camp experiences? Join our team at Camp Conowingo, a 600-acre sleepaway camp in Conowingo, Maryland, along the Susquehanna River. Unit Counselors live and work closely with campers, helping create a fun, supportive, and inclusive community while enjoying life outdoors.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to supervise campers and understand the needs of girls across age levels
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow a daily schedule with flexibility
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain during paid training
  • Excellent communication skills with children and adults
  • Physical stamina to supervise campers during long, active days
  • Ability to recognize and respond quickly to safety concerns and emergencies
  • Must pass required background, fingerprint, and drug screenings
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with change
  • Able to work effectively with diverse groups of campers and adults
  • Team-oriented, willing to take initiative, and follow direction as needed
  • Enthusiastic about the outdoors and living in a rustic setting

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in youth leadership, education, recreation, or camp settings

Responsibilities

  • Live in a unit with campers and serve as a leader for an assigned group alongside the Unit Leader
  • Support campers with daily routines while following a structured yet flexible schedule
  • Lead and assist with engaging activities in collaboration with camp staff
  • Maintain program and activity equipment
  • Contribute to the care and upkeep of camp facilities and shared spaces
  • Participate fully in camp life, including meetings, activities, kapers, and special events
  • Practice risk assessment and ensure camper safety at all times
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and on time
  • Support camper-led decision-making, accountability, and positive behavior management
  • Promote Girl Scout values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Adapt to changing situations with a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Completes additional responsibilities as needed to support program operations.
