About The Position

The Unit Coordinator at Nationwide Children's Hospital is responsible for performing secretarial and environmental activities under the supervision of a registered nurse. This part-time position involves assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, as well as maintaining medical records and coordinating unit communications. The role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the General Medicine Unit, which caters to a diverse range of patients, primarily infants.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current CPR (Basic Life Support-Health Care Provider) certification required upon hire.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator/clerk course or equivalent competence preferred.
  • Computer skills required with the ability to navigate current technology systems.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains the patients' medical records.
  • Performs monitoring of patient charts for required signatures and secures signatures as appropriate.
  • Operates communication systems including telephone, paging system, and multi-function devices.
  • Coordinates unit communications and processes related to secretarial and environmental activities.
  • Maintains unit supply of computer down-time forms and implements down time procedures for staff.
  • Cleans, orders, and stocks clerical, educational, and clinical supplies.
  • Monitors and maintains unit compliance with regulatory agencies and documents appropriately.
  • Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
  • Initiates emergency protocols such as Code Blue and provides required information to confirm calls.
  • Responsible for the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners.
